Welcome to our village.

At The Village School of Louisville (VSL), our educational approach is deeply inspired by the globally respected Finnish Model of Education—a system rooted in trust, equity, joy, and the belief that children learn best when they are supported as whole people.

We have adapted these principles to meet the unique needs of our diverse Louisville community, while remaining faithful to the core philosophies that make the Finnish model so successful. Founded in 2020, VSL opened to students in Fall 2021.

VSL arose from the ashes of a pandemic which clarified the challenges children face in the broader education system, which prepares children not for the unknowns of the future, but for jobs of the past. VSL champions the preservation of childhood by honoring the continued evolution of self and self discovery guiding each student’s path to foster skills and strengths required to be good future stewards of our shared world.
